Choosing the Right Ganpati for Your Home Puja: A Guide

 

As Ganesh Chaturthi is impending, markets are adorned with an array of Lord Ganesha sculptures. However, it is important to select the right idol to be installed during the favourable 10-day festival that observes Lord Ganesh’s visit to Earth. Here is a controller to help you excel the perfect idol and welcome Ganpati Bappa to your home base this celebratory season.

Clay Idols

Select idols mix of clay as they are traditional and environmental. As per tradition, when Goddess Parvati made Ganpati, she used eco-friendly ingredients like clay, sandals, and turmeric. You can also create idols that produce a plant or tree after engagement.

Crown on the head

The head of the Lord Ganesha should have a crown.

Trunk direction

While selecting a Ganpati statue for home, it’s optional to have a statue whose trunk is bent towards the left. As per Vaastu, the Ganesh idol with trunk to the left is fictional to be bring good fortune and luck.

Note that the Ganesh sculpture with its trunk on the right side needs strict compliance to rituals and pujas.

Ekdant

One of the horns of Lord Ganesha is broken. Ekdant indicates sacrifice, wisdom, and the capability to overcome problems. While getting an idol, authorize one of the tusks is broken/shorter than the other. The stem of the Ganpati idol should be on the port side.

The idol should have 4(four) hands.

Pash

The noose symbolises Lord Ganesha’s ability to seize negativity and obstacles.

Ankush

The Ankush signifies Lord Ganesha’s power to direct his devotees on the right path.

The modak, Lord Ganesha’s favourite sweet, represents the fulfilment of a wish and the sweetness of life.

Varmudra

The varmudra is the hand sign through which Lord Ganesha blesses and shields his devotees.

Sacred thread

While getting an idol, confirm whether the god is wearing the sacred thread, Janeu. Else, you may create the idol and wear one before preliminary the Pooja.

Posture and colour

As dissimilar to any idol, get the Ganesha idol in an inactive posture. Create the idol wear clothes in red, or yellow colours as they are measured promising.

Mouse with the Ganesh idol

The Lord Ganesha's vahan, or vehicle, is the mouse. They cannot be separated. Always make sure that the Ganesha idol you purchase has a mouse. Put a veil over the Ganesh statue when getting an idol; it will be taken off during the Pooja.
